Welcome to our “2ndInternational Conference on Dementia & Alzheimer’s Disease”.
Alzheimer’s disease is a chronic neurodegenerative disease that usually starts slowly and worsens over time. Initial symptoms are often mistaken for normal ageing. The first symptoms are often mistakenly attributed to ageing or stress. Sixty to seventy percent of cases of dementia lead to Alzheimer’s disease. The disease process is associated with plaques and tangles in the brain. The most common early symptom is short-term memory loss. As the disease advances symptoms include problems with language, disorientation, mood swings, loss of motivation, not managing self-care, and behavioral issues.
The typical life expectancy following diagnosis is three to nine years. There are no medications or supplements that have been shown to decrease risk. Detailed neuropsychological testing can reveal mild cognitive difficulties up to eight years before a person fulfills the clinical criteria for diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. This Conference gives you an opportunity to learn more about Dementia & Alzheimer’s Disease.
